Maruti DZire enters Top 10 best selling small cars in the World – For first time

Maruti Suzuki DZire subcompact sedan has been claiming a top spot on the list of monthly sales charts in the country for many months now. Sales have remained steadily well above the 20,000 unit mark per month and the DZire is at the top in this category with a market share of over 50%. Needless to say, the Maruti Suzuki DZire has found itself a hot favorite among buyers in India.

However, it is not only in India that the DZire is the most desired vehicle. It is this sub-compact sedan that has also scored at a No. 9 spot on the list of Global Top 10 Small Cars.

Maruti DZire saw sales during H1 of 2018 at 140,441. Sales in July 2018 stood at 25,647 units as compared to sales at 24,465 in June 2018 resulting in a MoM growth of 4.83% and market share of 57.55% as compared to a market share of 48.9% last year.

It is positioned above the Citroen C3 which is at No. 10 but below the likes of the VW Polo, Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris, Peugeot 208, Renault Captur, Honda Fit (Jazz) and Hyundai i20. You can see the full list in the image below.

The other small cars in the list, are truly global cars, which generate sales thanks to its popularity in multiple countries. That is not the case with Maruti Dzire. It is still a made in India car for India.

Speaking about overall best selling cars (the above list is for only small cars), then the world leader is Ford F-Series at 5.34 lakh sales till date. It is followed by Toyota Corolla, Volkswagen Golf, Honda Civic, Toyota Rav4, Nissan X-Trail, Volkswagen Passat, Honda CRV, Honda HRV, Chevrolet Silverado. Below is the list of top 50 cars sold in the world for 2018 H1.

Some of the India bound or already on sale in India cars featured in the world’s best selling cars list include Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Honda CRV, Honda HRV, Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Tucson, Mercedes C Class, Volkswagen Jetta, Honda Accord, Jeep Compass, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Tiguan, Mercedes E Class, Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Tiguan, Mercedes GLC, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, Toyota Yaris, and Ford EcoSport.

What is best selling in the world, is hardly generating any sales in India. This shows how different is the Indian auto industry and possibly why global car makers find it difficult to hit success in India.
