Maruti employees take lessons from spiritual teacher to reduce workplace conflicts
Maruti Suzuki has dealt with many unpleasant issues in the past both at the company’s Gurgaon and Manesar plants. Strikes by workers, arson and violence which led to the death of Awanish Kumar Dev, General Manager (Human Resource) besides shut down of plant. Now, in order to bring a resolve and reduce the number of workplace conflicts, the company has hired services of famous spiritual teacher – Shivani Verma, also known as Sister Shivani or Brahmakumari Shivani (BK Shivani).
Atul Jain, Asstt General Manager (Production Planning & Control), is one such person who has benefited largely from these sessions, transformed from a fiery boss to a more amicable colleague. His subordinates who were in awe of his volatile temper now find him easily approachable following sessions on spirituality and mind enlightenment. Jain finds his temperament has calmed while his efficiency has improved along with his colleagues in his department who once hesitated to approach him but now are ready to disclose their mistakes.
These sessions will allow employees to keep tempers under control, stress levels as low as possible and will ensure the least of conflicts at workplace. Brahma Kumari Shivani, who has conducted similar sessions at Larsen & Toubro, Indian Oil Corporation, Singapore Airlines, Godrej Industries, Sony Entertainment Television, GE Energy and Apollo Hospital, is confident of these sessions helping the employees of Maruti Suzuki to a great extent.
Various other initiatives are being initiated by Maruti Suzuki which boasts of a common canteen and uniform throughout the company irrespective of hierarchy. Two vegetarian canteens and a separate Japanese food counter for visitors is seen at the company’s Gurgaon plant while various programs for employees and their families are organized twice a month.
