What could be named Maruti Fronx is a brand new premium hatchback waiting to be positioned above Maruti Swift, to take on superminis that are well established as premium products. As of now Hyundai Elite i20 is the chief target, until Honda Jazz re-launches in India.Unveiled last month at 2015 Geneva Motor Show as Suzuki iK-2 concept, the model is set to go on sale first in India. Apart from styling, based on new Liquid Flow deign language, Maruti Fronx will be touted for its size and spaciousness, as it is substantially larger than the current B-segment flagship from Maruti Suzuki.
Features-wise, Maruti Fronx is expected to be loaded with all gadgetry its segment has ever seen, including touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control and push button engine start.
As for engine options, Suzuki iK-2 concept was premiered with a brand new iteration of the company’s 1.0 litre engine, labelled K10C BoosterJet. It is simply the 998cc K10B petrol engine doing duty in Maruti Celerio, WagonR and Alto K10, fitted with a turbocharger and tuned to be more responsive. The car is also believed to house the 1242cc K12C petrol engine that benefits from DualJet technology (twin fuel injectors per cylinder), but this variant could be designated only for exports. Diesel version of Maruti Fronx would carry the tried and tested 1.3 litre DDiS mill.
Expected to be launched by September 2015, price of Maruti Fronx will be competitive to the likes of Hyundai i20, and Volkswagen Polo. We expect it to be in the range of Rs 5.5 to 8.5 lakhs.
