The crossover will be available in both petrol and diesel avatars.

Maruti is gearing up to launch the Ignis mini crossover this festive season. The upcoming product which was showcased at the Auto Expo in the form of a near-production concept will be pitted against the Mahindra KUV100.

The Ignis will be powered by the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engines.

The Ignis is based on Suzuki’s new global car platform.

Autocar India reports that the petrol variant will be available with an optional automatic transmission in the form of a CVT (Continuously Varying Transmission) rather than AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

The same petrol motor is paired to a 4-speed automatic gearbox onboard the Dzire but a CVT would result in better fuel economy. Standard transmission option will be a 5-speed manual unit.

The Ignis adopts a fresh design language which is characterized by tall stance, boxy front fascia with prominent headlamps, an angular greenhouse, and a wedge-shaped rear fascia. Inside, a simple vertically bifurcated dual-tone dashboard sports a touchscreen infotainment system and a new steering wheel.

The publication also reports that the Ignis will join the Baleno and S-Cross as the third member of the Nexa lineup. This indicates a premium positioning and a rich equipment list.
