Maruti Ignis Facelift Launched At Rs 4.89 L – BS6 Vs BS4 Prices

Just a few days after debuting at the Auto Expo, the Maruti Ignis facelift with BS6 engine has been launched. Price hike is in the range of Rs 11k to Rs 36k.

In addition to the BS6 emission update to the powertrain, the 2020 Maruti Ignis BS6 also receives minor styling updates which are aimed at enhancing its crossover appeal. The revised front fascia features new chrome accented grille with squarish vents and a redesigned bumper with prominent scuff plate. The Delta variant which has witnessed the highest price hike receives additional body cladding, roof rails and roof-mounted spoiler which were not available (on this variant) before.

The profile has been retained without much changes while the rear fascia ditches the massive black bumper insert for a smaller silver faux diffuser. The bumper also earns reflectors to mask the visual bulk. The Mahindra KUV100 rival is now available in two new exterior color options namely Lucent Orange and New Torquoise.

Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “IGNIS enjoys a special place in the Maruti Suzuki NEXA portfolio and has been appreciated for its peppy drivability and spacious interiors. We have recognised an increasing preference for feature loaded cars that have SUV-like high seating position and dominant road presence. We are confident that the all new IGNIS with its SUV design and spacious interiors will appeal to the customers.”

The Ignis’s simple yet practical interior has been carried forward. The facelifted micro-crossover benefits from an updated SmartPlay infortainment system which incorporates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cloud services, voice command, navigation with traffic status and so on.

The 1.2-liter BS6 petrol motor continues to put out 83 hp and 113 Nm of torque. Buyers can opt for a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. There are no other mechanical changes. Depending on the variants, the price increase compared to the older BS4 model stands between Rs 11k to Rs 36k. The updated car retails between INR 4.89 lakh to 7.2 lakh (ex-showroom).

Underpinned by Suzuki’s Heartect platform which serves several other Maruti products starting from the Wagon R, the Ignis attempts to lure buyers in the B-Segment away from conventional hatchbacks. Efficient engine, spacious cabin, high seating position and crossover-like appeal makes it an attractive choice in its price segment.

While the Maruti Ignis has not exatly been setting the sales chart on fire, it has manged to maintain a consistent sales performance. With the updates, the company would be hoping at least to maintiain the status quo if not make a huge stride. The production version of Tata H2X could be posing a threat to the Maruti micro-crossover in the foreseeable future.
