Showcased at 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida last year, the new Maruti Ignis compact car was launched today, at an EDM concert hosted by Axwell. At least 7,000 people were in attendance when the car was launched, possibly the grandest car launch India has seen.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis is on sale via exclusive NEXA dealerships. Bookings of the car have been open for some time now, and reports suggest that waiting period has already crossed 2 months. You can only book the new Ignis online via the NEXA website by paying INR 11,000. This amount is fully refundable in case you decide not to buy the car.
Suzuki Ignis receives a compact body structure, which is inspired by the Swift hatchback. It will sport projector headlamps and massive bumpers at the front and rear. To make the car look even more sporty, there are LED DRLs, roof rails, blackened A, B and C pillars. Optionally you can also have a piano black finish on the roof.
Set to rival the likes of Mahindra KUV100 and Renault Kwid, Maruti Ignis measures 3,700 mm long, 1,660 mm wide and 1,595 mm tall. It has a 2,435 mm long wheelbase and ground clearance of 180mm.

Interiors will see a host of innovative designs not yet seen on any Suzuki model. The Ignis sports a brand new steering wheel design, a new infotainment system while cabin space will be comfortable enough for upto 4 adults.
Interiors are done in black with silver accents while the Ignis gets automatic climate controls, touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system with USB and Bluetooth. Maruti Suzuki will present the new Ignis with safety features that include standard airbags with ABS, reverse parking sensors. Though launch is still a few months away, pricing of Maruti Ignis is slated to fall in the INR 5-7 lakh bracket to keep abreast with competition.

What will be the USP of Ignis is ithe availablility of wide range of features. Maruti claims that the new Ignis is the most feature-rich car in the segment. There will be more features and customization options on offer than any other car offers currently in the small car segment. Customers will be able to digitally create and see their customized Ignis SUV at the touch of a button, thanks to new Maruti iCreate app.
Engines & Mileage
Engine lineup for the Maruti Suzuki Ignis in India will include both petrol and diesel options. It is the same 1.2-liter K12B engine with VVT and the 1.3 liter DDiS diesel engine which is offered with the Swift. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as well as an AMT gearbox. The petrol variants will deliver 20.89 kmpl while diesel variants will deliver 26.8 kmpl.
New Maruti Ignis will be offered in a choice of four trims – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. It will be offered in a choice of 5 colour options – Uptown Red, Pearl Arctic White, Tinsel Blue, Urban Blue and Silky Silver. Top end variants also come with contrast roof colour options. As per the variant, you will be able to choose colour.
Maruti reveals that the Ignis will target a group of buyers who they call the Millenials. As per Maruti, Millenials are those who are born in the late 1980s and the early 1990s.
