Maruti imports 1,621 units of 1.6l diesel engines from Italy for A-Cross Crossover

All these diesel engines were imported between 10th March and 1st May this year.

Entering the SUV segment in the weeks ahead, Maruti Suzuki’s new crossover, S-Cross / ACross will be powered by a 1.6l Multijet diesel engine producing 120 hp power and mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. MSIL is initially importing these engines, the company could commence local assembly sometime later. The engine in question as showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo in February 2014 and is the largest diesel engine to be offered on any of the company models to date.

Known as SX4-SCross internationally, in India it will be named Maruti ACross.

BesidesĀ 1.6l Multijet diesel engines, 2015 Maruti S Cross/ACross could also receive a 1.4 liter K Series petrol engine. These engines being locally produced will allow the company to keep prices competitive.

Maruti S Cross / ACross for India has already been spied. It features dual slat chrome grille, projector headlamps, daytime running lights and tail lights with a host of chrome accents. Giving it an aggressive stance are its black body cladding seen on lower portion of bumpers and sides along with silver skid plates.

Interiors are in all black with silver accents dominated by a multi function steering wheel and features that include climate control and keyless entry which will make their way to the higher variants. The S Cross/ACross will be offered in two trim levels – Vxi/Vdi and Zxi/Zdi with petrol and diesel engine options with pricing in the INR 12 lakh bracket.
