A daily driver with rugged design and functionality – Why the Maruti Jimny is creating a buzz in the Indian market
Maruti Suzuki Jimny, the ever popular off-road SUV and daily family car, is getting ready for launch in India. Although the SUV has been showcased and bookings have been opened, on-road Jimny prices are yet to be announced. However, it is expected to start at just under Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom). Maruti Jimny bookings are pegged at around the 25,000 unit mark at present. The 5-door version is the only one being offered in India by Maruti Suzuki.
As for the launch date of the 5-door variant, it has not been announced yet. However, Jimny display vehicles are being moved to different dealerships in a pre-planned schedule. So, if you can’t find the Jimny at your nearest NEXA dealership, it’s most likely being showcased in another part of the city. Anubhav Chauhan has covered the same in his walkaround video. Let’s take a look.
Limited space but big on features: The Maruti Jimny
For those considering the Jimny as a daily driver, it’s important to note that the vehicle is strictly a 4-seater. The backseat offers limited shoulder room and leg space, making it uncomfortable for three people. The rear suspension is softly sprung, as demonstrated in a video by Anubhav Chauhan. The rear wheel wells also expose the fuel tank to prying eyes.
In terms of seats, the Jimny 5-door variant offers comfortable and supportive front seats. The tyres are skinny compared to the exaggerated wheel wells, and the 15″ alloy wheels may come off as small to some. Overall, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny offers a unique blend of style, functionality, and off-road capability that makes it a compelling option in the small car segment.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been making waves in the Indian market due to its impressive features and capabilities. It is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Gypsy, which lacked standard features like AC and power steering. As a NEXA offering, the Jimny comes with UV-cut glass, headlight washers to clear muck while offroading, hydraulic-assisted rear side-hinged tailgate, rear washer and wiper, auto-folding ORVM, side and curtain airbags, rear view camera, LED projector headlights, fog lights, rear defogger, and more.
The interior is also feature-rich compared to its rivals, such as the Thar 5-door and Gurkha 5-door. It has keyless entry with push-button start, request sensors at the front doors and tailgate, a 9” SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, auto up/down driver window, cruise control, and more.
Maruti Jimny’s respectable approach and departure angles: Ready to tackle terrains
In addition to its impressive features, the Jimny is a capable off-roader. It has a 1.5L K15B engine producing just over 100 bhp and 134.2 Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter. It also has a 4X4 transfer case and 36-degree approach, 50-degree departure, 24-degree ramp-over angles, and a respectable 210 mm ground clearance.
One of the questions frequently asked about the Jimny is its mileage. While there is no diesel variant, a lot is riding on the petrol variant’s fuel efficiency. And this is where the company could be hiding an additional ace up its sleeve. Because Maruti Suzuki takes pride in making fuel efficient cars.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been creating a lot of hype in the Indian market due to its unique and stylish design, off-road capabilities, and practicality as a daily driver. With its rugged and boxy design, the Jimny offers a perfect blend of style and functionality. When it comes to colour options, Maruti offers a range of choices to cater to various tastes. These include Sizzling Red, Granite Grey, Nexa Blue, Bluish Black, Pearl Arctic White, and Kinetic Yellow.
