It was back in 2012, when it was first reported that Maruti Suzuki India will enter the country’s lucrative entry level commercial vehicle segment. About 4 years later, Maruti is all set to achieve that dream.
Made in India, Maruti Super Carry has already been launched in South Africa earlier this year. To be powered by the same 800 cc, two-cylinder diesel engine which powers the new Celerio diesel, Super Carry LCV will only be on sale in three cities in first phase. These three cities are – Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Ludhiana. Maruti has invested INR 300 crores in the development of Super Carry.
Though deliveries will only commence in late August, the company has confirmed pricing. In Ahmedabad, price of Maruti Super Carry will start from INR 4.03 lakhs, in Kolkata it will start from INR 4.11 lakhs, and in Ludhiana it will start from INR 4.01 lakhs.
The reason Maruti is launching Super Carry in phases is because along with new LCV they are also launching new dealer network. Yes, Maruti Super Carry will be sold at new dealerships, and not at existing Maruti dealers. As of now, the new CV dealerships are setup in Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Ludhiana. Maruti aims to launch more dealership before the end of this year.
Outlining the attributes of the Super Carry, Mr R.S Kalsi, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki said, “Super Carry is designed and developed basis detailed research and understanding of customer requirements. It offers best of both the worlds –power and strength as well as carrying capacity. We are confident Super Carry will enhance the profitability of our customers.”
Maruti Super Carry Performance
Powered by a 793cc twin cylinder diesel engine, which generates 24 kW (32 hp) at 3500 rpm and 75 NM at 2000 rpm. Mated to a five-speed transmission, the engine delivers a fuel efficiency of 22.07 kmpl and has a top speed of 80 kmph. Maruti claims that Super Carry offers better load carrying capacity and pick up.
Maruti Super Carry is equipped with a lighter steering wheel, which makes it easier to drive in city traffic (4.3m turning radius) as well as bad terrains. Pay load capacity of Super Carry stands at 740 kgs, while its long wheelbase of 2110 mm not only helps in better stability, but also to load larger items (loading area = 3.25 sq mt). Super Carry is offered with a warranty of 2 years / 72,000 KM (whichever is earlier).
Maruti Super Carry Safety
Equipped with disc brakes in the front along with Load Sensing Proportioning Valve (LSPV) braking system, which keeps the LCVs stability intact in an event of heavy braking. Apart from this, it gets active safety features like large windscreen, ORVMs (driver & co-driver), additional rear reflectors, headlamp leveller and robust packaging of electrical parts enhance the safety of the occupant. For added safety, high tensile material limits intrusion inside cabin. The galvanised material in the chassis area provides better rust resistance.
