In slump season, carmakers are leaving no stones unturned in their bid to boost sales. Things will start on a different note from April 2020 with new safety and emission norms, which is another reason for clearing existing stock. Automakers will also shift focus to electric and hybrid cars, something that necessitates liquidation of old models.
Just like other auto companies, India’s number one carmaker Maruti Suzuki is also offering attractive discounts on its range of cars. Discounts of up to Rs 60,000 have recently been announced for all cars sold through Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa dealership chain. Here’s a quick look at discounts you can get on cars like Baleno, Ciaz, S-Cross and Ignis.
Baleno: One of Maruti Suzuki’s most popular products, Baleno comes in one diesel and two petrol engine options. The 1.3-litre diesel unit makes 75 hp power and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Petrol engine options include a 1.2-litre K12B BS6 motor delivering 83 hp and a new 1.2-litre K12C DualJet engine delivering 90 hp. Both engines are BS-VI compliant and come mated with 5-speed manual gearbox. A CVT gearbox option is offered with the older K12B engine whereas the new K12C unit features mild-hybrid technology. Total discount is Rs 22,500 for pre-facelift Baleno whereas Rs 17,500 is being offered for facelifted models. However, there is no discount for Baleno with DualJet engine.
Ignis: Nexa’s most compact offering and also the most affordable, Ignis total sales crossed 1 lakh units last month. Ignis was also updated earlier this year, when it received new features such as rear parking sensors, speed warning, etc. Powering Ignis is a 1.2 litre petrol engine that generates 83 PS power and 113 Nm torque. Transmission options include 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox. Discount of Rs 37,500 is being offered on all variants of Ignis.
S-Cross: This one rides on a Fiat sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine that makes 88.5 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 200 Nm @ 1750 rpm. Engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and comes with mild-hybrid technology. Total discount available on this Hyundai Creta rival is Rs 60,000. An update is pending for S-Cross, wherein the car might get new diesel and petrol engine options.
Ciaz: Although Ciaz sales have declined in FY19, it remains to be the segment leader for third consecutive year, ahead of Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Ciaz was updated in March, where it received a new 1.5-litre diesel engine and 6-speed manual gearbox. Maruti’s new in-house developed diesel unit generates 95.17 PS power at 4,000 rpm and 225 Nm torque at 1,500-2,500 rpm. With this update, Ciaz is now more powerful than the outgoing model. Its mileage is also best in segment at 26.82 kmpl. Discount of Rs 50,000 is available on base and mid-spec variants – Sigma, Delta and Zeta, whereas discount of Rs 40,000 is being offered on top-spec Alpha and all variants of Ciaz AT.
