Maruti production crosses 1.5 crores in 377 months, DZire joins 10 lakh club

India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki today rolled out their car number 15 millionth (1.5 crores), a DZire sedan. This achievement has been achieved in a span of 377 months (31 years and 5 months).

Maruti Suzuki, a company which sold their first car in December 1983, sold their 1 millionth car in 1995 (which was a gift to Mother Teresa). In April 2005, the company sold their 5 millionth car, March 2011 saw sales cross 10 million, and now 2015 sees Maruti production cross 15 million cars. This makes Maruti Suzuki the only Indian car company to achieve the feat.

The cars which have contributed massively in achieving this milestone are – Maruti Alto (Alto 800 + K10) sales stand at 31 lakhs, Maruti 800 (discontinued this year, but the car which made this achievement possible) sales stand at 29 lakhs, Maruti Omni sales at 17 lakhs, Maruti WagonR sales at 16 lakhs, Maruti Swift sales at 13 lakhs, and finally, the newest model of them all, Maruti DZire sedan, with sales of 10 lakhs.

Speaking about their latest achievement, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, Executive Director, Production, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said that the company is very proud of this achievement. With ever second car sold in India being a Maruti, the Maruti family is growing at a much faster pace than ever before. This achievement not only makes Maruti proud, but every owner of a Maruti car proud.

Maruti would continue to strengthen their growth in India. Their mid-term plan is to achieve annual sales of 2 million by 2020. In FY 2014/15, the company sold 12.92 million, their highest ever. With new launches planned, Maruti is confident they will be achieving their target.
