The Maruti S-Cross and the Nexa outlets represent the country’s largest automaker’s renewed attempt at premium segment. It seems things are not quite progressing as well as the company would’ve liked. Team-bhp reports that, according to one of its forum members, certain Nexa outlets in Delhi are offering massive discounts on the 1.6-litre variants of the crossover.
Earlier, it was reported that the S-Cross is being discounted by around INR 1 lakhs and now the discounts have been increased to up to INR 2.9 lakhs (for the DDiS 320 Delta). The Zeta and Alpha variants of the S-Cross 1.6-litre DDiS 320 are said to be offered with discount of INR 2 lakhs. Dealers are set to be offering the Delta variant with freebies like navigation system and alloy wheels.
Not counting in the discounts, the S-Cross DDiS 320 Delhi is priced at INR 11.99 lakhs, DDiS 320 Zeta retails for 12.99 lakhs and the range-topping DDiS 320 Alpha would set you back by INR 13.74 lakhs (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
The S-Cross DDiS 320 is powered by the 1.6-litre diesel motor which is sourced from Fiat (MultiJet). Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the motor generates 120 PS and 320 Nm of torque.
While the Maruti S-Cross is struggling in the premium end of the market, its primary rival Hyundai Creta has been enjoying an excellent response with over 70,000 bookings. Lack of an imposing stance that Indian car buyers usually associate with the term crossover is one of the reasons for the S-Cross’ ordinary sales performance.
