Launched in September, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso has received good response from the market. Described as a mini-SUV by the company, S-Presso has already made it to the top 10 list of bestselling cars in October. S-Presso was ranked at eighth place in the list with sales of 10,634 units in October. This is an increase of 112.43%, as compared to September when 5,628 units were sold.

Another interesting thing to note is that S-Presso has raced ahead of other bestselling Maruti UVs such as Brezza and Eeco. While Brezza sold 10,227 units in October, Eeco sold 10,011 units. These are ranked at number 9 and number 10 in the list of bestselling cars in October 2019.

Brezza sales have been hit in recent months with launch of rival products such as Hyundai Venue. Even though Brezza is on a recovery mode, its YoY sales slid -35.40% in October whereas MoM sales are down -1.30%.

Maruti S-Presso appears to be a radical product, as it has elements of both an entry-level hatchback and an SUV. It is targeted at the young generation, first-time car buyers and people who want the SUV experience in an affordable package. Priced at Rs 3.69 lakh, S-Presso is larger than Maruti Alto 800. As it utilizes the advanced Heartect platform, S-Presso is also 4 kg lighter than Alto (730 kg).

With S-Presso registering strong sales, it yet again highlights the fact that customers are willing to spend on new cars provided that the product has something unique to offer. We have already seen this trend with other new cars such as Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos, and MG Hector, all of which have registered strong sales.

S-Presso comes with a range of striking features such as SUV inspired front fascia, dual chamber headlamps, body coloured bumpers and ORVMs, blacked out B-pillar, side body cladding, full wheel covers and stylish C-shaped tail lamps. Interiors are also designed for a premium experience, as can be seen with the dynamic central console, digital speedometer, steering mounted controls and 17.78 cm SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

S-Presso is powered by a 988 cc, 3 cylinder, petrol engine that generates max power of 67 bhp @ 5,500 rpm and max torque of 90 Nm @ 3,500 rpm. Engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or AGS (Auto Gear Shift) unit. Key safety features include ABS with EBD, driver side airbag, reverse parking sensors, speed alert system and seat belt reminder.
