Maruti sales Nov 2019 decline 3.3 percent – 1.39 lakh cars sold

For the month of Nov 2019, Maruti Suzuki India has registered total domestic sales of 139,133 units. This when compared to sales registered in Nov 2018 (143,890), is a decline of 3.3%.

Including exports, commercial vehicle and sales to other OEMs (Toyota Glanza), cumulative sales of Nov 2019 stood at 150,630 units in Nov 2019. In Nov 2018, this number was at 153,539, thereby declining 1.9%.

It was the Mini + Compact Segment of cars which helped Maruti register their most sales. This segments combined sales in domestic market stood at 104,319 units last month, which is a 1.8% growth with compared to Nov 2018. Below is the detailed sales report.

Further breakdown of the segment reveals that mini segment, which consists of Alto, S-Presso and Old WagonR – registered sales of 26,306 units in Nov 2019 as against 29,954 in Nov 2018. This was a declined of over 12%. Compact segment (New WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire) saw sales of 78,013 units as against 72,533 units – thus growing by 7.6%.

The mid size segment sedan, Ciaz sales were at 1,448 units in Nov 2019 – declining from 3,838 units in Nov 2018. This was a massive 62% decline. Sales of Maruti utility vehicles segment (Gypsy, Ertiga, XL6, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza) declined marginally from 23,512 units in Nov 2018 to 23,204 units in Nov 2019. Maruti Eeco sales were at 10,162 units in Nov 2018.

Speaking about sales to other OEMs, Maruti sells Baleno to Toyota, which is then rebadged by Toyota and sold as Glanza at their dealerships. Maruti sold 2,286 units of Glanza to Maruti last month.

Maruti Suzuki India announced yesterday that their total car sales since inception has crossed the 2 crore mark. The company took 37 years to reach this milestone. The first 1 crore sales were achieved in 29 years, while the next 1 crore sales was achieved in a record time of 8 years. No other car maker in India is even close to that sales number of Maruti.

Maruti has plans to continue with their growth momentum by launching new cars in India every year. This year, saw Maruti launch new gen WagonR, S-Presso small SUV, XL6 premium MPV, etc. Next year, Maruti plans to launch petrol Brezza, electric WagonR, etc.
