Maruti Suzuki India Limited is working overtime on their new offering, Alto 800 small car, even while their current best seller Alto is losing ground. With the upcoming festive season round the corner, MSIL is optimistic of boosting sales of their cars in this small segment. To ensure successful launch during Diwali season in India, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has stepped on the accelerator where trials of their new 800 cc vehicle is concerned.
Buyers are showing more preference to smaller cars in India specially since the past petrol price hike. This small 800 cc vehicle is being designed keeping in mind needs of customers in small car segments who have now turned their backs on petrol powered cars and are showing more affinity for diesel variants.
Maruti Suzuki small cars are getting collected at inventories post petrol price hike and at the same time the largest car maker in India also has to contend with rivals Hyundai Motors, especially after they launched Eon. MSIL sales have seen a drastic dip in the past few months. Sales dropped by 11% to 1.01 million in fiscal year ended March 31, 2012.
The company’s top selling model Alto too suffered a decreased demand and the company sold only 308,288 units during the past financial year, a dip of 11% as compared to sales in the previous financial year. Maruti now hopes to position this new 800cc car which will be ready by Diwali, price of which will be lesser than Hyundai Eon and will be the most efficient small car in its segment.
