Maruti Suzuki India has now gone ahead with an upgrade for Alto K10 safety features. The entry level car safety features are now compliant with AIS-145 safety norms.
Given that, Alto K10 safety features now include ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), driver airbag, reverse parking sensor, speed alert system, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder.
ABS fitment and mandatory inclusion of added safety features will soon be a norm for vehicular safety. Alto K10 safety features being offered as standard from today will be a norm for all vehicles from July 1, 2019. Maruti Suzuki Alto competes in its segment with Renault Kwid and Datsun Redigo. Both small cars have received safety features that make them compliant, though Redigo safety features are limited to ABS.
While Alto K10 safety features are a welcome move, vehicles will need to go the whole distance to eb ready for stringent crash test norms wef October 1, 2019. In line with global NCAP standards, Bharat NCAP tests vehicles for full-frontal impact, offset-frontal impact and lateral/side impact.
Improved car safety is the need of the day at a time when road fatalities are one too many. As safety testing norms get more stringent, one finds the industry standard of basic safety to be stretchy. Despite all that is available, basic safety features may not always be forthcoming. AIS-145 safety standard compliance can help plug the gaps.
AIS-145 standard looks to improve safety in the ‘M’ and ‘N’ vehicle categories. Alto K10 safety features warrant a price exchange, which has come into effect today. The price hike has been factored in all Alto K10 variants. In Delhi/NCR this will be in the range of Rs 15,000 to Rs 23,000 depending upon variant.Depending on features introduced across variants, the Ex-showroom price in Delhi and NCR varies from Rs 3,65,843 to Rs 4,44,777. For the rest of India, price ranges from Rs 3,75,843 to Rs 4,54,777. The same is effective from today i.e. 11th April, 2019.
