First batch of new Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback has been exported from Mundra Port in Gujarat. These cars are now on their way to Japan, home country of Suzuki Motor, the parent company of Maruti Suzuki India. This has happened for the first time in the history of Indian auto industry that a domestic car maker has exported made-in-India cars to the home country of parent company.

Below are a few photos from the small ceremony which was attended by Mundra Port officials and Maruti Suzuki management just before the cars were shipped.

Exclusively made-in-India, new Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a mid-sized hatchback which rivals the likes of new Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. Launched in India back in October 2015, it has already beaten Hyundai i20 to become the best selling car in the segment with over 10,000 sales in the month of December 2015.

Offered in a choice of petrol and diesel engine options, new Maruti Suzuki Baleno which has been exported to Japan is powered by a 1.0 liter BoosterJet engine. This engine is rated at 110 hp and 170 Nm. Apart from this, Japan also gets Baleno with 1.2 liter petrol engine with SHVS technology. Transmission is either via a 5 speed MT or a 6 speed AT.

At the upcoming Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki will unveil a sportier Baleno RS powered by 1.0 liter Boosterjet Engine. Stay tuned to Rushlane as we cover the 2016 Auto Expo LIVE.
