Maruti Suzuki India has launched yet another BS6 engine powered car. Their BS6 list now includes Celerio small car.

In a filing today, Maruti Suzuki has announced the launch of its Celerio BSVI. Maruti Suzuki Celerio BS6 small car is now available at a starting price of Rs 4,41,200 (ex-sh, Delhi). Price goes upto Rs 5,67,300 (ex-sh, Delhi) for the top of the range variant.

The models in question are all petrol engine powered variants. Rest of India price point ranges from Rs 4,46,200 to Rs 5,72,300. At one time, the manufacturer did sell Celerio diesel variants but that was culled in early 2017. Two years later, the Celerio portfolio remains a no diesel range.

Small hatchback sales 2019
Celerio was the 2nd best selling car in the segment for 2019.

Even though it doesn’t seem like it, Maruti Suzuki Celerio has already been available in the market for more than 5 years. However, it doesn’t dominate people’s senses in that, that it’s a really small car, and though initial sales were higher than the current day, the vehicle hasn’t sold in numbers that make it a household name.

MSIL has tried to stay on top of BSVI transition. An essential move considering the volumes sold each month. With no intension of being stuck with dead stock come April 1, 2020, MSIL has been introducing BSVI compliant models in a timely manner. Just last week, the auto manufacturer introduced its EECO BSVI range.

Maruti Suzuki Celerio features a 1.0-litre K10B 3-cyl aluminium petrol engine that returns 67 PS of peak power at 6,000 rpm, and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm, paired to 5-speed manual gearbox. Fuel efficiency is pegged at 23.10 kmpl. It’s yet to be confirmed if the engine update has effected a change in power and torque output.

Maruti Celerio despite falling sales has held onto second spot in its segment in terms of sales. Through 2019, 70,950 units were sold. Last month, 5,429 units were sold. To put that in perspective, Renault Kwid outsold Celerio at 5,539 units sold. Sales were down noticeably from the 9k units sold in December 2018. For the ongoing FY, 46,275 units have been reported sold.
