A fake job notice on social media triggered off a state of confusion at upcoming Maruti Suzuki car plant in Hansalpur, Ahmedabad as eager job seekers thronged the gates on Wednesday morning. Even as the youths waited hopefully for the gates to open, they were a disappointed lot when they were not allowed to enter the premises and were notified that there was no such ongoing recruitment drive.
The situation followed fake messages on social media announcing that Suzuki Motor Corporation (parent company of Maruti Suzuki India) was hiring electricians, welders, wiremen and CNC/VMC operators who had passed out from it is with a starting salary of INR 16,900 per month. These 1,500 strong unemployed youths, carrying certificates and documentation, were disappointed at the turn of event which then got out of control as stone pelting followed.
The situation was only brought under control after police arrived. The company, and cops convinced the youth there that it was a fake message, though no force was required to bring the job seekers under control. A case under IT Act has been registered against those who have posted these fake messages, with the authorities trying to ascertain the source of the WhatsApp message.
“I went there for an electrician’s job after I received the message. Upon reaching there, I learned that there was no such recruitment going on. I left the spot as the situation started aggravating,” said Sanjay Thakor, a resident of Ahmedabad.
This is not the first time something like this has been reported. Time and again fraudsters have done such things. A few months ago, fraudsters had sent mails to random candidates telling them that their job was confirmed at Maruti Suzuki, but needed security money to confirm the job.
Some of the hapless victims even transferred the money into the fraudster’s account, realizing too late that they had been taken for a ride. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has denied any knowledge of this and has confirmed that they have not sent out any such emails or employed any of the job seekers posting their CVs on the job portals.
