Maruti Suzuki sales during December 2016 decrease by 1%

Maruti Suzuki sales for the month of December 2016 (including exports) stood at 1,17,908 units. This when compared to the sales registered in December 2015, when the company sold 1,19,149 cars, is a decrease of 1%.

Domestic sales of the company for the period stood at 1,06,414 units, while exports stood at 11,494 units. The figures for corresponding month last year were 1,11,333 and 7,816 units respectively. Thereby registering decrease of 4.4% and an increase of 47.1% respectively.

Last week, Maruti Suzuki announced optional safety features across all variants of Swift, DZire, and Celerio.

Maruti Suzuki India posted a marginal decline in sales due to the demonetization announced by Indian government back in November 2016. The company is hopeful that the sales will be back to normalcy soon. December 2016 is also the month when Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was adjudged as the Indian Car of The Year 2017. Vitara Brezza won against Toyota Innova Crysta and Hyundai Tucson in the final round.

Speaking about best performing Maruti Suzuki cars for the month of December 2016, it was once again the company’s compact cars – Swift, Celerio, Baleno, Dzire, Ritz that posted the maximum sales. Compared to 47,354 cars sold last December, the total cars sold by this segment this month was 43,295 units.

The mini segment cars from Maruti Suzuki – Alto 800, Alto K10 and WagonR posted sales of 31,527 units during Dec 2016. This is a decline of 15.3%, as in Dec 2015, the segment sold 37,234 cars. This could be because change in buyer preference. Study has revealed that more and more number of first time car buyers are choosing compact cars over the mini cars.
