As per a new report, Maruti Suzuki India will shut down all of their 3 manufacturing plants (2 in Haryana and 1 in Gujarat) for routine maintenance from today. All three plants together produce 17.5 lakh cars a year, which is almost 4,795 cars in one single day. Shutting the three plants for 7 days will result in a loss of production of over 33,500 cars for the carmaker.
This will in turn affect delivery of new cars. If you have been waiting to get deliver of your Maruti car, you can expect it to get delayed by a minimum of 1 week, unless you get the cars which are manufactured already or those which are lying in the dealer stockyard.
As of today, the Maruti Suzuki car which has the highest waiting period – is the Brezza SUV. Depending on the colour and city you are buying the car from, waiting period extends to as much as 14 weeks. Next in line is new Swift. Even though Maruti is selling more than 20,000 units of Swift each month, waiting period refuses to decline. 2018 Swift comes with a waiting period of up to 8 weeks.
Maruti Dzire sedan is another popular car from the brand. This one too has sales of over 20,000 in a month, but still commands a waiting period of up to 6 weeks. Baleno premium hatchback too has a similar story. Sales are at about 15,000 a month, but still waiting period refuses to decline and stands at about 4 weeks. Apart from the cars above, Maruti Suzuki has many more cars which are doing extremely well in sales.
In addition to all this, the car maker is planning on launching at least two new cars this year in India – Ciaz facelift, New Ertiga, and the third could be much awaited 7 seater WagonR. As is the case with most Maruti car launches, new cars will bring with it more sales demand. For this, the company will have to get ready to produce more cars.
Maruti Suzuki India is aiming to sell 2 million cars annually by 2020. Currently they arr producing 17.5 million, and have plans in place to meet their target, probably even before the set timeline of 2020.
