Maruti Swift hybrid launch is being planned for 2017. To cater to the demand of environmentally concerned customer, this upcoming Suzuki Swift hybrid variant is currently being engineered at Suzuki R&D in Japan.
Swift is a global hatchback. Sold across the world, including developed markets like European countries, Japan, South Korea, and Australia. The new Swift hybrid variant is going to be a very important product in these markets, where the demand of hybrid vehicles is on the rise.
For India, which is also the largest market for Swift hatchback, the hybrid variant will act more like a niche product, which Maruti could launch to showcase their prowess as a modern car manufacturer.
In the meantime, the company showcased Maruti Swift Range Extender at 2014 Auto Expo. This concept is a plug in hybrid variant of Swift which will be powered by a conventional small displacement petrol engine along with an electric motor. Back in March last year, it was reported that if the car is launched, Indian govt. officials will be using them.
Swift Range Extender receives a three cylinder in-line 658 cc engine with a 74 hp electric motor mounted on its front axle. Sourcing power from a 5 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Swift Range Extender claims fuel efficiency of 48.2 kmpl while in all electric range the car is rated at 25.5 kmpl. The battery takes a total of 1.5 hours for a complete recharge.
Speaking about the new Swift, Suzuki UK YouTube handle has uploaded a new TVC of Swift, aptly titled, You really must see one!
