Unlike the Maruti Swift RS we have in India which is essentially a special edition with extra decals and skirts, the JDM-spec Suzuki Swift RS is much more sharper than the regular variants. Once such souped up red car is in attendance at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and we have the live images from the show floor.
The Swift RS sports aerodynamic body kits, ORVMs with integrated turn indicator, 16-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights and a Swift RS badge on the hatch door. On the inside, special seat fabrics and leather wrapped steering wheel with contrast stitching sets the sporty variant apart form the normal version.
The instrument console is completely different from the India-spec model and has color coded guide to promote economic driving habits. The centre console houses a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.
Power comes from the 1.2-litre DJE (Dual Jet Engine) which benefits from regenerative braking and Idle Start/stop system. Mated to a stepped CVT with paddle shifters, the Swift RS makes 91 PS and 118 Nm of torque. It has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.4 kmpl.
The Suzuki Swift RS for the Japanese market is priced at 1,667,520 yens (around 9.01 lakh).
