Based on a new, lightweight platform, 4 units of the 2015 Suzuki Alto have been brought into India for R&D purpose, reveals Zauba (a website which provides India’s import and export data).
2015 Suzuki Alto 660 cc receives a new platform which is 60 kgs lighter as compared to its earlier counterpart. It measures 3,395 mm in length and 1,475 mm in width while height varies from 1,475 to 1,500 mm depending on variant. Engine specs on board the JDM trim (which is seen in the spy shots) include a 3 cylinder 0.66 liter gasoline engine offering 48 hp. With Variable Valve Timing System, this engine offers 51 hp. The engine is mated to either a 5 speed manual, 5 speed AMT or a CVT with fuel efficiency ranging from 25.2 kmpl to 37 kmpl.
For the Japanese Domestic Market 2015 Suzuki Alto is seen with a host of exterior updates that include larger headlamps and bumper while interiors are comfortable, airy and boasts of adequate space for upto four adults. Done up in lighter tones of upholstery, the cabin sports dashboard mounted gear level while its instrument panel comprises of analogue speedometer and multi information display.
Maruti Suzuki India is probably testing the car for new parts and components. As the new Japanese Alto comes with a lighter platform, Maruti could use the same underpinnings for the next gen Indian Alto’s platform. This would better equip Maruti Alto against upcoming rivals from Nissan, Datsun and Renault. There is a good possibility that the Alto 660 cc could debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.
