The Maruti Vitara Brezza which was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 is all set to go on sale in the country on March 8. Maruti dealers have been accepting bookings for the compact crossover for the past few weeks.
Going by the increased footfall and enquiries at the dealerships, the company’s mini SUV is up for a very strong start. As far as Maruti is concerned, a lot rides on the Vitara Brezza not only because it will venture into a high volume sub-4 metre SUV segment but also because it is the very first product to be developed fully by the local R&D division.
Parent company Suzuki is said to be planning to allocate more complete product development projects to its Indian subsidiary and the Vitara’s market response would play a crucial role in the final decision.
The crossover borrows a significant number of its components from the time tested Swift platform to exploit the economies of scale. At the same time, the design is completely fresh with upright pillars, contrast roof (top-end variant), bold front fascia and a tall stance.
The Ford EcoSport rival will be available only with a 90 PS 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine at the time of launch but a petrol variant would come at a later stage.
