Maruti Vitara Brezza – a name that means ‘fresh breeze’ in Italian is a subcompact SUV heading to launch in India. To be detailed ahead of its global debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in February, new Brezza is part of the company plan towards showing off a fresh new approach.
Owing its design and engineering to the Maruti Suzuki Development Team headed by Mr. Raman, Chief Engineer, the work on Brezza commenced over 5 years ago. It was displayed as the XA Alpha Concept at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. It sports prominent DRLs and interiors similar to those seen on the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and S-Cross.
The new Brezza receives a prominent floating roof, sleek front grille and projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights. It sits on 16” alloy wheels and was noted with square wheel arches. To be sold through company’s regular dealers and not through exclusive NEXA dealers, the new Maruti Vitara Brezza will compete with the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and the likes.
Maruti’s first offering in the sub 4 meter SUV segment, the new Brezza will be powered by the same engines seen on the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Baleno. These include a 1.2 liter K Series petrol engine and 1.3 liter DDiS diesel engine with both engines sporting a front wheel driver setup and mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. With increased demand for CVT in India, the company may also think of introducing a CVT variant. Prices are expected in the range of INR 6-9 lakh.
