Maruti WagonR sales cross 24 lakh since launch in 1999

Maruti Suzuki WagonR, the tall boy model of the company, has completed a two decade journey. Launched in 1999, this car has been at the top of the list of best selling cars in the country for many years. Today, it has made its way across 24 lakh families across 3 generations.

Maruti WagonR has proved to be one of the most successful models in the company lineup. It entered its third generation earlier this year and is in a BS6 compliant format. Its popularity is such that it has gained nearly 25 percent repeat customers who regale this model for its strong appeal, generous interior space, bold stance and powerful engine lineup. It also comes with the option of Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology.

The WagonR appeals to a younger segment of buyers and the new WagonR, has crossed the 1 lakh unit sales within 7 months of launch in July 2019. In November 2019, sales of the WagonR stood at 14,650 units up 29.5 percent as compared to sales in the same month of the previous year.

Maruti WagonR 20 lakh sales

It is positioned on the lightweight HEARTECT platform, complies to new safety standards of frontal offset, side crash and pedestrian safety norms and gets enhanced features of new chrome grille, larger airdams, black highlights on headlamps and dual tone interiors along with a well designed dashboard.

With the BS6 engine lineup, the WagonR is now priced at Rs.5.10 lakhs which is an increase of around Rs.16,000 as compared to its earlier counterpart. The petrol engine lineup includes a 1.0 liter engine offering 67 bhp power and 90 Nm torque and a 1.2 liter engine producing 90 bhp power and 113 Nm torque.

Both engines are mated to a 5 speed manual transmission as standard while the company’s AGS automatic transmission is also on offer on select variants. The WagonR also gets a 1.0 liter CNG unit producing 67 bhp power and 78 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission with prices of this variant ranging from Rs.4.99-5.06 lakhs.
