Maruti XL6 modified with 16 inch alloys, wider tyres – Details

Maruti XL6 modifed

Maruti Suzuki recently launched the XL6 premium MPV in India. This new 6 seater MPV is based on Ertiga, but is offered as a more premium variant. This is why it is being retailed at Nexa and not Arena dealers.

XL6 is offered in two trim levels – Zeta and Alpha. Both are powered by a petrol engine option, that also powers the Ertiga and Ciaz. Priced between Rs 9.79 lakhs and Rs 11.46 lakhs, it has been noting good sales despite the slowdown across the sector. Waiting period in some cities has extended upto 8 weeks.

Basically, XL6 is Ertiga with cosmetic updates. XL6 looks bigger, wider and much more macho than the Ertiga. This is thanks to body cladding, new front new bumpers, etc. But the tyres and alloys remain same as seen on Ertiga, which is 185/65 R15. This makes the tyres look puny in comparison to the overall structure of the XL6.

To give the car a better stance, Team BHP member rohin4110 has shared photos of his modified XL6. The owner has now replaced the standard tyres of 185/65/15 Bridgestone Ecopia tyres with Michelin Primacy-4 (205/55/16). Cost of this modification has been in the range of Rs 70,000.

The new alloys look more proportionate to the size of XL6, as compared to the earlier tyres and alloys. This modification has had no adverse effect on the functioning of the car. This is what the owner has to say – “The firm footed and planted look on the new broad section Michelin tyres. The bolder stance with the upsized tyres, which give the XL6 a better ride quality, keep the understeer in check at high speeds and a firm footed feel while engaging in speeds in excess of 90 kmph.”

Speaking about the XL6, it also receives several SUV inspired features unlike those seen on the Ertiga on which it is based. The XL6 sports a higher set hood. This shows off the new MPV in a more rugged light while also allowing for a better driving position.

The styling package introduced on the Maruti XL6 also included chunky bumpers, faux skid plates, an upright front grille with chrome accents and black plastic cladding, premium roof rails and a black trim on its tailgate. Exterior colour options include NEXA Blue, Magma Gray, Auburn Red, Premium Silver, Brave Khaki and Arctic White.

Maruti Suzuki XL6 is powered by a BS VI compliant 1.5 liter K15B petrol engine offering 104.7 PS power and 138 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual and 4 speed torque converter automatic. The engine also receives SHVS mild hybrid technology that boosts mileage. The Maruti XL6 enters a segment wherein it faces competition from the Mahindra Marazzo, Renault Lodgy and Honda BR-V.
