Maruti YRA (codename) is a global premium hatchback which was previewed by Suzuki Ik-2 near production concept at Geneva Motor Show in March this year. The car which will be positioned above Swift offers more space and equipment compared to its smaller sibling.
First ever clear images of YRA’s interiors have surfaced online, revealing the car’s brand new dashboard design. Its simple dashboard houses a silver accented centre console with touchscreen infotainment system, an upright instrumental binnacle and a multifunction steering borrowed from Swift. The gear knob mount also features silver accents.
Top-end export spec YRA is reportedly equipped with start/stop button, automatic climate control, dead pedal, heated seats, day/night mirrors and black upholstery. A few of these features are expected to be omitted for India, especially the heated seats.
YRA’s powertrain lineup is likely to include the new 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo petrol engine and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. The 1.2-litre K-Series petrol could also be offered.
Maruti would be the sole source of YRA to several export markets including Europe. While Europe is slated to get the car later this year, it remains to be seen whether Maruti will start rolling out India-spec model in 2015 itself or focus on catering to initial demand in Europe. If latter is the case, we could witness an Auto Expo launch in early 2016.
