Livemint reports that, according to its sources, Maruti is planning to expand its premium lineup at Nexa outlets to 3 towards the end of this year. Maruti S-Cross which is scheduled to be launched on August 5 and Ciaz are the first two models while the third one will be the premium hatchback codenamed YRA.
Previewed as Suzuki IK-2 concept at Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the upcoming hatchback will be positioned above Swift to take on the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, VW Polo, Honda Jazz and Fiat Punto. The car will offer good space and will be high on equipment.
YRA is expected to debut Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre BoosterJet three-cylinder turbo petrol motor. The familiar DDiS200 (1.3-litre Fiat Multijet) unit is likely to be the diesel engine of choice. Both manual and automatic (only in petrol variant) transmission would be on offer.
Maruti is planning to set up 100 Nexa premium outlets across the country in the next 6-8 months. It’s reported that the country’s largest automaker is hoping to derive 10% of its sales from these new outlets in the first two years. Nexa concept is a integral part of the brand’s strategy to achieve 2 million annual sales by 2020.
