One of the most awaited products from Maruti Suzuki, the car which is internally codenamed as YRA has already begun final tests before launch. New Maruti YRA is a global car which was showcased as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
To be manufactured in India, Maruti will export the YRA globally from here. For the first year, Maruti Suzuki aims to produce 80,000 units of YRA; of these 60% will be for exports. This means, in India Maruti will limit the sale to just 2,666 units per month in the first year of launch. This will ensure Hyundai i20 continues to remain at the top in the segment (as it has average monthly sales of 10,000 units).
In the second year of launch (ie 2017), YRA production will be increased. This will be possible thanks to Suzuki’s new plant which is coming up in Gujarat. This increased production will also help Maruti increase local sales as well as exports.
Export markets of the YRA includes many first-world countries in Europe, and some South East Asian nations. Apart from this, the highlight of exporting YRA will be the fact that it will become the first car which Maruti will export their owner Suzuki’s home country – Japan. In the first year, 5,000 units of YRA will be exported exclusively to Japan.
This will make Maruti Suzuki the first Indian car maker to export made-in-India product to home country. Ford is also trying a similar feat. by exporting EcoSport to the US.
Longer, wider and more muscular than Swift, Maruti Suzuki YRA will boast of added interior space while it will sport a honeycomb radiator grille, LED daytime running lights, large alloy wheels and stylish headlights. Interiors will be stylish and comfortable and will receive features such as steering wheel with buttons for audio and cruise control, climate control, touchscreen infotainment, heated front seats, airbag deactivation button and central armrests.
In India, Maruti Suzuki YRA hatchback is expected to be priced between INR 5.5-9 lakhs. Apart from the same set of petrol and diesel engine on offer with Swift, YRA is also expected to feature a 1.0 liter BoosterJet three cylinder turbocharged engine.
