Suzuki iM-4 concept 4×4 crossover and iK-2 premium hatchback were unveiled at the exhibition, shedding light on upcoming launches.Suzuki iK-2 hatchback and iM-4 crossover will be launched worldwide, including India. The first model, codenamed Maruti YRA is expected to launch in October, 2015. The premium hatchback will rival Hyundai Elite i20 and soon to launch (in India) Honda Jazz. Suzuki iK-2 will be produced locally, with export allotment of almost 50 percent.
Suzuki iM-4 concept crossover, codenamed Maruti YJC, will be positioned below Maruti Ertiga in the company’s lineup, competing with pseudo crossovers and mini SUVs like Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura, Mahindra S101 and the like. But the model will take up to end of 2016 to roll out.
Both these products are expected to help push Maruti Suzuki’s market share past 50 percent, since both are highly anticipated volume makers. Between 1.2 and 1.4 lakh units is the annual sales estimation of both Maruti YRA and YJC.
Given that a new generation platform supports both Suzuki iK-2 and Suzuki iM-4, parts sharing could be significant, helping lowering ex-showroom price. They will be powered by new generation powertrains, more of which can be learnt through the hyperlinks.
