The Ghibli is marginally shorter and lighter than Maserati Quattroporte, and for the first time in over 100 years history, Ghibli gives Maserati two 4-door sedans in one range. Ghibli will be the flagship model for the company to achieve sales of over 50,000 units a year by 2015.
The luxury sports sedan has monotone carbon interiors with premium soft leather seats (Poltrona Frau leather, Maserati’s usual), coloured in contrast to the plastics. The central console features an 8.4 inch Maserati Touch Control system shows all controls of the car, excluding AC ones.
Maserati Ghibli is powered by a new V6 3.0 litre engine designed in-house and produced by Ferrari in Maranello. Max. power pushed by this engine is 330 hp and 500 Nm, allowing it to dash from 0 to 100 in just 5.6 sec. Top speed is not electronically limited, claimed to reach 263 kmph through 8-speed auto gearbox.
Ghibli S gets same engine with higher tuning to bring out 410 hp max. power and 550 Nm peak torque from just 1,750 rpm. Sportier Ghibli sprints 0 to 100 kmph in 5 seconds flat, and goes all the way up to 285 kmph. Both Ghibli and S engines have direct injection with low inertia parallel twin turbochargers, and deliver fuel to combustion chamber at around 200 bar pressure.
