Big capacity scooters may not have tasted success in the Indian market in the past, but that has not dissuaded Taiwanese automaker 22Kymco from launching its 276 cc X-Town 300i ABS maxi-scooter in the country.
Kymco’s move is commendable also because the launch of its maxi-scooter is taking place at a time when India’s auto sector is experiencing a slowdown. However, Kymco does have some distinctive advantages such as an entirely new product, which promises an altogether new experience to riders.
At first glance, X-Town 300i maxi-scooter looks like a hybrid machine, a fusion between a motorcycle and a scooter. The front section can be easily mistaken for a motorcycle with its protruding headlight casing and tall windshield.
Rest of the build has been designed like a scooter and comes with stylish and comfortable leather seats. X-Town 300i maxi-scooter is meant for long distance touring, which is traditionally the domain of touring bikes. It may click with touring enthusiasts who may want to try an entirely new ride for their long journeys.
X-Town 300i maxi-scooter comes with a sporty design and has elegant curves that are sure to turn heads on the streets. Key exterior features include dual headlight, LED running lights, and X-shaped LED tail light.
It has a wide instrument panel that displays various types of information such as oil pressure, ABS indicator, oil service, engine check, high beam, warning lights, etc. There’s plenty of storage space at the front and under the seat as well. The left glove box at the front comes with a USB charging port for charging electronic devices.
Powering X-Town 300i maxi-scooter is a 276 cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel injected petrol engine that generates max power of 24.5 PS @ 7250 rpm and max torque of 25 Nm @ 6250 rpm. Engine is mated to a CVT unit. Chassis used is a highly rigid steel frame, which makes the maxi-scooter suitable for all types of road conditions. Lean angle is 37°, which provides improved cornering performance.
X-Town 300i maxi-scooter is 2250 mm long, 800 mm wide, 1385 mm tall and weighs 181 kg. It is equipped with extendable telescopic front fork and adjustable double swing rear suspension. Braking duties are performed by 260 mm disc at the front and 240 mm disc at the rear. Bosch 9.1M anti-lock braking system (ABS) is offered as standard.
22Kymco X-Town 300i maxi-scooter is priced at Rs 2.35 lakh (on-road Delhi). It currently does not have a competitor, but if sales start ticking, it may prompt other manufacturers to launch similar products in the Indian market.
