Maruti and Hyundai May 2015 car sales in India register growth

Together, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have a market share of about 65% in India. Over the last few months, these two have managed to increase their domestic sales to new records. They continue the momentum into yet another month.

Maruti Suzuki May 2015 car sales in domestic market stood at 102,359. This is an increase of 13% when compared to their sales in May 2014 (90,560 units). Their exports too registered a growth. Maruti car exports for May 2015 stood at 12,466 units, as compared to 10,365 units exported in same month last year.

Driving Maruti’s growth, once again were their entry level small cars – Alto and WagonR. Together, these two recorded sales of 35,062 units. This is a 20% increase as compared to May 2014. Upgraded Swift and DZire too clocked in good sales along with Celerio and Ritz. While their all-new Ciaz sedan, which replaced the SX4 sedan, clocked 5,012 units. Upcoming Maruti Suzuki car launches this fiscal – Maruti Celerio diesel on 3rd June, Maruti Suzuki Across (SX4 S-Cross) by Diwali, Maruti YRA Premium hatch by Diwali, Maruti YBA compact SUV early 2016 and a diesel engine powered LCV.

Hyundai India May 2015 car sales stood at 52,515 units, including exports. This means, the South Korean brand registered an increase of 1.5%. Of these, 37,450 units were sold in the domestic market, while 15,065 units were exported. This, when compared to report of May 2014, domestic sales increased 3.4% while exports declined 2.9%.

The highlight for Hyundai India was once again i20, which once again recorded sales of 10,000+ units. This is the fourth consecutive month where Hyundai i20 (Elite + Active) has registered sales in excess of 10,000 units.

Hyundai India manufactures cars from their plant in Chennai, which is the most utilized car manufacturing facility in the country. The company is planning to set-up a new plant in the country, most probably in Gujarat.
