McLaren’s most compact and least powerful sports car model, 540C Coupe, has been unveiled at 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. This is the second variant in the Sports Series that targets lower segments McLaren is entering.
The 540C Coupe is made of carbon fibre chassis that is designed to behave best for day-to-day use. Not just about the handling, but also pertaining to ease of ingress and egress, as this McLaren will be promoted as a stylish alternative to run errands. The car weighs just 1,311 kg, which is around 150 kg lighter than its nearest rival. It is as much of a sports car as the other McLarens are, although it is designed to be a daily machine on city streets.
McLaren 540C Coupe is powered by the acclaimed mid-mounted 3.8 litre V8 engine that uses a twin turbocharger. The motor dishes out 540 PS max power @ 7,500 rpm and 540 Nm peak torque @ 3,500 – 6,500 rpm. With power-to-weight ratio of 412 PS per tonne, the car accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 3.5 seconds and 0-200 kmph in just 10.5 seconds; and can manage top speed of 320 kmph. To achieve these numbers, the engine is paired to a 7 Speed SSG (Seamless Shift Gearbox).
540C is loaded with vital bells and whistles other models in the family enjoy. There is floating centre console on the dashboard, which features a 7-inch IRIS touchscreen.
McLaren 540C Coupe is made available in markets worldwide where the Italian marque is present, but just for pre-order / booking as of now. Price of 540C is £126,000 (Rs. 1.18 crores). Deliveries will commence early next year.
