With the stage almost set for the 2012 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, it has been a season of F1 car unveilings for this season. At the technical presentation of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-27 at the McLaren Technology Centre, the car shown to the world was but obviously an evolution of the six-race-winning beastie from 2011.
At first glance the all new Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-27 is a close semblance of the 2011 F1 car. Changes include the 2012 chassis that’s undergone a revision from the ground-up, and changes have been made to all major systems. Visually, the 2012 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-27 F1 car has a more tightly waisted rear bodywork that works in improving flow to the rear of the car. There’s also a revised , cooling system that re-directs the gearbox oil-cooler.
The U-shaped sidepods from the 2011 car have been re-designed as well in testimony to FIA’s new exhaust regulations resulting in the newness of the rear bodywork. This season too will see world champions, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton steer both Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-27 F1 cars through the season. Jenson Button will start track testing the MP4-27 at Circuito de Jerez, Spain on 7th February.
