While we await for the ‘Beast of the Green Hell’ to debut in India on 21st August, 2017, Mercedes-Benz India has taken the AMG GT R to Buddh International Circuit. The GT Roadster convertible too will be launched alongside.

At the top of its game from the onset, AMG GT R now holds the distinction of holding the ‘Fastest Lap’ record at BIC. AMG Driver, Christian Hohenadel was behind the wheel, and the lap test supervised by FMSCI.

The previous ‘Fastest Lap’ time at BIC stood at 2:14.521 mins also set by Mercedes-Benz India. That was the SLS AMG back in March, 2013. The old record has now been beaten by about 5 seconds, and stands at 2:09.853 mins making AMG GT R the ‘Fastest Production Car‘ to lap BIC.

Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India says the AMG GT R spent a large portion of its development time at Nürburgring. AMG GT R is an embodiment of Mercedes-AMG’s global expertise in creating a sports car that every performance enthusiast around the world, would like to own and experience every day.

Akbar Ebrahim , President FMSCI says their technical delegate, Raj Kapoor supervised the test and lap time record. Shown for the first time at 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed, AMG GT-R gets power from 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine that produces 430 kW(585 hp) and 700 Nm of torque mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Driving dynamics are optimised with a front mid-engine layout with transaxle, modified suspension, advanced aerodynamics, active rear-axle steering, bespoke tyres and lightweight design. The AMG GT-R goes from 0 to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds and can reach top speed of 316km/h. AMG GT R already holds the distinction of being the fastest RWD car to lap Nürburgring from which, its earns its ‘Beast of the Green Hell’ nickname.
