The Mercedes AMG GT R which is set to become the most powerful and fastest ever variant of the AMG GT sportscar has been teased for the first time via a couple of videos. The new range-topping variant will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 24.
World premiere will involve the spectacular hill run which is typical of Goodwood FoS. The teaser partially reveals the front fascia, spoiler, badge and interior.
To be positioned above the GT S, GT R’s tweaked 4.0-litre Bi-Turbo V8 petrol engine is expected to produce around 550 – 600 PS of power. The 7-speed AMG dual-clutch automatic transmission, suspension, steering and brakes will also be upgraded to cope up with the added performance.
Mercedes AMG GT R is also reported to be significantly lighter than the GT S which weights 1,645 kg. This should give the new variant enough capability to rub shoulders with the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and McLaren 675LT. The GT S accelerates from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds. The GT R should be at least a second quicker than its 510 PS sibling.

Visually, the Mercedes AMG GT R will be a lot more aggressive than the existing GT S. A new grille with vertical slats, sharp aerodynamic body kit, special colors, exclusive alloy wheels and a purposeful rear spoiler would be the highlights.
