Mr Eberhard Kern, CEO of Mercedes Benz India, announced the launch of 2015 C Class diesel variant today. He also announced the start of CKD operations for C Class petrol variant, which was launched in India late last year for a price of Rs 40.90 lakhs, ex-showroom New Delhi. Surprisingly, the CKD launch price for C Class petrol variant is the same at Rs 40.90 lakhs, ex-sh, Delhi.
Speaking about the newly launched C Class diesel, it is offered in two trims – C220 CDI Style and C220 CDI Avantgrade. These are respectively priced at Rs 39.90 lakhs and Rs 42.90 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi. Both C Class diesel variants are launched as CBUs, while CKD operations are expected to commence in next three months.
Mechanically, both Mercedes Benz C Class diesel variants are same as they get the same engine under its hood. This is in the form of a inline 4 2143 cc engine which is also seen on board the new CLA Class and GLA Class, but in a higher state of tune.

In the new C Class, this engine delivers 167.5 hp between 3000 – 4200 rpm and 400 Nm peak torque between 1400 – 2800 rpm. This when compared to the CLA and GLA, is about 35 hp and 100 Nm more. Transmission of power is via 7G TRONIC automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. Fuel efficiency is claimed at 19.27 kmpl, while top speed is 233 kmph. 0-100 kmph acceleration time is just 7.4 seconds.
New C Class is also called as the baby S Class, for the unmistakable exterior and interior design shared by the two. On board features include five drive modes, 7 airbags, PRE Safe, attention assist, hill start assist, reversing camera, panoramic sunroof, ESP, ASR, BAS, ABS, tyre pressure monitoring system, Mercedes Radio, 3D navigation, new generation Audio 20 CD with touchpad, keyless entry, keyless start stop, 3 ambient colour lighting, internet connectivity via smartphone bluetooth, LED headlamps, and much more.
