Mercedes Benz is on the brink of introducing five new CLA models which will make their entrance at Geneva Motor Show in March 2013. Out of these, it is the CLA 180 BlueEfficiency Edition that is being viewed as the world’s most aerodynamic road cars. It is slated to have overall drag co-efficiency of 0.22 as against Toyota Prius which has 0.25 and BMW’s 320d EfficientDynamics which is at 0.26.
The upcoming vehicle will be powered by a 1.6 liter four cylinder petrol engine which Mercedes Benz has brought out along with Renault. This engine will be capable of 120 bhp and 147 lb/ft torque and will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 9.9 seconds. It will however, have a limited top speed of 118 mph.
Combined fuel consumption along with auto emissions are also at their best which is at 56.5 mpg and 118g/km. This is as against the standard Mercedes Benz CLA 180 which is rated at 52.3 mpg and 126 g/km respectively. Enhanced aerodynamic development will be initiated due to the opening of a new wind tunnel at the company’s R&D facility in Sindelfingen. This includes a rolling road across a 19m long floor area which is capable of providing measurements at upto 165 mph.
Mercedes Benz CLA Edition 1 is available only for a year. With a huge possobility to customise, the car can be combined with any engine. Interiors include NEON ART interior with upholstery in leather and black microfibre DINAMICA with yellow contrasting topstitching. This 4 four-door coupé Edition 1 focuses on exclusivity and sportiness four-door coupé.
