Mercedes-Benz E-Class Shooting Brake Spotted Again In India – Testing In Bengaluru

Mercedes-Benz’s E-Class Estate, also known as the Shooting Brake, has been spied testing in India once again, this time in Bengaluru. The latest sighting took place near the Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) facility at Brigade Tech Garden, indicating that the model is undergoing advanced evaluation and validation on Indian roads. This marks another clear sign that Mercedes-Benz is actively studying the feasibility of introducing the E-Class Estate in the Indian market.

The test mule spotted in Bengaluru by automotive enthusiast Dhee Raj Jathan, is heavily camouflaged but the long-roof silhouette and estate proportions are clearly visible. Just like earlier sightings, this version is the standard E-Class Estate and not the All-Terrain variant, as it lacks rugged body cladding, raised ride height and protective skid elements. The presence of blacked-out alloy wheels, flush door handles and a gently sloping roofline points towards a focus on elegance and practicality rather than outright rugged appeal.

Familiar Design, Practical Estate Layout

Based on earlier spy shots and global-spec models, the E-Class Estate carries forward the design language of the new-generation E-Class sedan, while offering a significantly more practical boot layout. Key visual elements include Mercedes’ signature grille with subtle three-pointed star detailing, sleek LED headlamps, chrome highlights and a clean side profile with frameless windows. At the rear, the estate is expected to get LED tail lamps with star-shaped lighting elements, a roof-mounted spoiler and a powered tailgate, making it a strong alternative for buyers who want luxury with added utility.

Globally, the E-Class Estate is positioned as a premium lifestyle offering, appealing to buyers who want sedan-like comfort but with the flexibility of a larger cargo area. If launched in India, it would cater to a niche but growing audience that prefers estates over traditional sedans and SUVs.

Premium Cabin And Technology Expected

On the inside, the India-bound E-Class Estate is expected to mirror the tech-heavy cabin seen on the latest E-Class sedan sold internationally. This includes a large central touchscreen running the latest MBUX interface, a fully digital driver display, extensive ambient lighting, premium upholstery and advanced comfort features such as ventilated and massaging front seats. Safety is also expected to be a strong focus, with multiple airbags and a comprehensive ADAS suite forming part of the package.

Powertrain Options And India Launch Prospects

The test vehicle spotted in India is believed to be the E300 variant, which uses a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. In global markets, the E-Class Estate is also offered with more powerful petrol and diesel options, including mild-hybrid setups. Whether Mercedes-Benz brings a single petrol variant or a broader engine lineup to India remains to be seen.

While there is no official confirmation yet, repeated sightings near MBRDI suggest that Mercedes-Benz is seriously evaluating the E-Class Estate for India. If approved, it could be positioned in the Rs 90 lakh to Rs 1 crore range (ex-showroom), sitting above the E-Class sedan and offering a unique alternative to luxury SUVs.

For now, the continued testing of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate on Indian roads keeps the possibility of its launch very much alive, especially as Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its portfolio with niche and lifestyle-oriented models for the Indian market.
