One of India’s leading luxury car manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz, has been expanding its electric vehicle portfolio. After launching Maybach EQS 680 electric SUV, Mercedes has now launched the G 580 with EQ Technology Edition One in India. Commonly known as ‘Electric G’ or ‘Electric G-Class’, this behemoth gets a price tag Rs 3 Cr (Ex-sh) for Edition One. Bookings will commence in Q4 2025.
Electric G-Class Launch Price
The electric version of the iconic G-Class SUV or G Wagon has been launched in India. Formally called Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology, this electric SUV has been priced at Rs 3 Cr (Ex-sh) for Edition One. It doesn’t really have a direct competitor in India and will enjoy a niche, offering buyers a high-performance electric SUV with quite a few tricks up its sleeve.
Colour options for Electric G-Class are 5 in total, with Manufaktur Cercei Blue Magno. Where design is concerned, Mercedes has kept the iconic G-Class silhouette intact, but it gets unique elements to set visual distinction from its ICE counterpart. Overall, Electric G-Class is a perfect vehicle for discerning SUV buyers in India who want to stand out from the mundane.
Electric G-Class just looks cool in every sense of the world. The Signature Matte Blue looks stunning on this vehicle. The main design distinctions include a closed-off front grill that also houses a large Three-Pointed Star logo. Depending on the kit, Electric G-Class gets an illuminated front grill too. Edition One Gets Night Pack and AMG Line Pack as standard.
Round LED headlights with integrated LED DRLs, fender-mounted LED turn indicators, multiple gloss black inserts, bulging muscular bonnet, AMG 20-inch aerodynamic AMG alloy wheels for Edition One and the signature side body moulding that runs across the length of this SUV are notable elements. At the rear, Electric G-Class gets a dual-tone squarish housing, rather than a spare wheel.
New Electric Underpinnings
Other than these, Mercedes-Benz has not made any more changes to G 580 with EQ Technology. This is a good thing, considering the cult following and rich heritage this immediately recognizable design evokes. On the inside, changes are minimal as well, when compared to its ICE counterpart.
There are Blue interior highlights, most notably on circular AC vents, along with Blue stitching on fine Nappa leather. The latest MBUX system runs on two 12.3-inch high-resolution displays that also support augmented reality. Just like its ICE counterpart, Electric G-Class is just as exuberantly luxurious as it can get, featuring exquisite materials and an exceptional overall aura. Only the Edition One gets specific badges.
Where powertrains are concerned, Electric G-Class ditches the oil-burner heart in favour of a large 116 kWh battery, mated to four electric motors. Total system output is 579 bhp and 1,164 Nm, claiming a range of 479 km on a single charge. This off-road vehicle is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.
Because there is one motor per wheel, Mercedes could achieve extreme torque vectoring, allowing the Electric G-Class to do stand-still 360-degree turns or ‘tank turns’. Off-roading features are plentiful on G 580 with EQ Technology as well. There is a virtual diff-lock feature, a transparent bonnet function showing an underbody visual feed, and more.
