Grand Edition of the Mercedes Benz C Class luxury car will come in with a host of updates to add a touch of extravagance and freshness to the model. It include a new radiator grille, black tints for headlights, brushed aluminium on the inside, an AMG body kit with new front and rear bumper spoilers and side skirts, and much more. The new C Class Grand Edition will sit on bespoke 17” alloy wheels with a two tone finish.
Sporting various badges and a redefined interior with added luxury features, the new C Class Grand edition will receive a 2.2 liter diesel engine of C Class CDI model, offering 170 PS peak power and 400Nm torque, while the petrol C200 delivers 186 PS and 285 Nm torque. Both are mated to a 7 speed automatic gearbox.
From their plant in Chakan near Pune, Mercedes Benz assembles the C Class, ML Class, GL Class and E Class while the automakers gear up for assembly of the new S Class in the months ahead. They will also launch S Class diesel in India, and it’s local assembly will begin later this year. Speaking about price hikes, Mr Kern says, costs and exchange rates keep prices of their cars high despite different import modes; CBU or CKD. A Class, the most affordable offering from Mercedes Benz in the country has seen good response, even when it is sold as via CBU route.
Mercedes Benz is also working towards increasing production from Chakan plant which has the capacity to produce 10,000 units per annum currently. The work to expand capacity is in-progress, and shall be completed in the months ahead. By 2nd half of 2014, Mercedes Benz India will double their production capacity.
Mr Kern also expressed his condolence over the untimely death of Mr Karl Slym, MD, Tata Motors. Speaking about their Auto Expo lineup, Mr Kern said they will unveil two new cars – CLA 45 AMG and GLA Concept SUV. Following is their entire lineup –
