Mercedes Benz X-Class makes global debut – First ever Mercedes pick-up truck

The new Mercedes X-Class will be offered in a 4 door crew cab configuration and in three lines of Pure, Progressive and Power. It is based on Nissan Navara.

To be sold as part of the Mercedes Benz Vans division, the recently unveiled Mercedes X-Class will go on sale in Europe from November 2017 while sales on other markets will commence later in 2018-19. Set to come in at a starting price of €37,000 ($42,758 / INR 27,50,942), Mercedes X-Class is the first pick up from the premium automaker.

It will sport a distinctive front grille, LED infused headlamps, plastic body cladding and massive wheel arches along with vertical tail lamps. Mercedes X-Class pick up will be offered in Pure, Progressive and Power trims. Pure pays special attention to ruggedness and utility while Progressive bridges the gap between Pure and Power with more attention to luxury.

Power is all about style and comfort. All three models receive a practical bed with cargo area lighting and 12 volt socket. The truck also gets a rear bumper with integrated step that can be removed to allow tailgate to open 180 degrees.

Classic interiors with extensive use of leather on dashboard, wood grain trims and an 8.4” touchscreen infotainment system will be available. Base models will get black fabric on seats while the top end trim will receive leather upholstery. In terms of capacity, the X-Class gets 202mm ground clearance which can be increased to 222mm.

Mercedes X-Class will come in with two engine specifications. The X200 d will have a 2.3 liter turbo diesel engine offering 163 PS power and the X250 d will get a biturbo diesel capable of 190 PS power. Both engines get mated to 6 speed manual gearbox while a 7 speed dual clutch automatic could also be on offer as an option.
