After a brief gap, Mercedes-Benz E 350d is back in the game in its BS6 avatar
In addition to the new 6-cylinder diesel engine, the car also gets a range of new features. Upgraded Mercedes E 350d now retails at Rs 75.3 lakh (ex-showroom). It is being offered in the new top-spec Elite trim.
From the outside, E 350d is recognizable with its elongated bonnet, coupe-like roofline, and prominent air intakes. Other key features include LED high performance headlamps with DRL, crystal-look LED taillights, and auto-dimming rear-view mirrors.
The new 3.0-litre BS6 engine is the key highlight of updated E 350d. This engine had first made its debut on S 350d in 2018. Over the last two years, the BS6 engine has also been rolled out in other Mercedes-Benz cars such as G 350d and GLE 400d.
The new engine is capable of generating max power of 286hp and max torque of 600Nm. Engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox (9G-TRONIC) and power is sent to rear wheels. The car can reach 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds. For record, the earlier 3.0-litre V6 engine produced 258hp and 620Nm.
Another highlight of new Mercedes E Class 350d BS6 is that it gets larger 18-inch alloy wheels. In comparison, other E Class variants (four-cylinder models) that had received BS6 upgrade come with 17-inch wheels. Other differentiating factors for new E 350d include wireless phone charging for front and rear passengers, memory function for steering and front seats, and open-pore black ashwood trimming. As compared to E200 and E220d that offer eSIM based ‘me Connect’ system, new E 350d is equipped with adapter-based connected car tech.
E 350d’s luxurious interiors offer a range of features such as steering mounted touchpad, Artico upholstery, advanced ambient lighting with two colour zones, 3-zone Thermotronic climate control, Burmester surround sound, and panoramic sliding sunroof.
Key safety features include 7-airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), adaptive brake lights, attention assist (detects driver drowsiness), pre-safe system, power closing function for front and rear doors, pedestrian protection, active brake assist, parking assist, and 360° camera.
E 350d is equipped with riding modes of Comfort, Eco, Sport and Sport+. Comfort mode will be suitable for most situations, as it offers balanced driving dynamics. Eco mode can be turned on when there’s a need to optimize fuel efficiency. Sport and Sport+ modes boost performance and allow more control to the driver.
Mercedes-Benz E 350d takes on rivals such as BMW 530d and 630d GT. Audi A6 could have been a potential rival, but it is offered only with petrol engine option.
