Having wrapped up 2015 with 15 launches, Mercedes-Benz India is not resting on its laurels. The German automaker who is expected to soon announce record breaking sales in India this calendar year is already gearing up for 2016.
The Mercedes GLE Coupe is set to start the luxury brand’s new innings in style on January 12. The Coupe derivative of the recently launched GLE (previously known as ML Class) will pickup up a fight with the first coupe SUV, the BMW X6.
To be available in the the GLE 450 AMG avatar, the GLE Coupe for India will be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 Bi-Turbo petrol engine enhanced by AMG components. It puts out a healthy 362 PS and 520 Nm of torque. Mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission which drives all the four wheels via 4MATIC system, the crossover coupe is capable of accelerating from 0-100 kmph in just 5.6 seconds. The GLE Coupe is also available in a range-topping 577 PS AMG GLE 63 S Coupe variant in international markets.
Save for the sleek coupe roofline and AMG body kit, the Mercedes GLE Coupe is similar to the regular GLE SUV. Unlike the GLE SUV which is being assembled locally out of CKD kits, the GLE Coupe would be imported as a CBU form the company’s Tuscaloosa factory in the US.
