Mercedes S-Class facelift India launch on 26th February, 2018

Mercedes Benz had unveiled the upcoming S-class last month in a ceremony graced by Mr. Nitin Gadkari. The premium sedan had the distinction of being the first BS VI compliant vehicle in India. The formal launch of the vehicle for Indian customers has now been finalized for 26th February, 2018.

The highlight of the upcoming facelift is the new diesel engine (internally known as the OM 656), which has the unique ability to meet Bharat Stage VI emission norms even while running on lower grade BS IV fuel. The BS VI emission norms come into force from April, 2020, which will drastically control the amount of pollutants which leave from a car’s exhaust.

The traditional BS IV fuels come along with a high Sulphur content which makes it difficult for engines to meet the stringent BS VI emission norms; however the German car manufacturer has cracked the puzzle with the OM 656. The six cylinder diesel motor churns out an impressive 600 Nm of torque & 286 hp of power. The BS VI fuel will be made available from April 2020 – pan-India, however Delhi is expected to get BS VI fuel by April 2018.

Apart from the new engine, the premium sedan comes along with few more changes, both on the outside & inside. The cosmetic changes on the exterior include a new set of headlamps, tail-lamps & front and rear bumpers.

Step-in and one is welcomed by a new 12.3-inch touchscreen unit, new wood & leather trim options and added ambient lighting setup. Features like ventilated seats with body-massage functions & four-zone climate control continue from the previous model.

Post the launch, S 350d will become the first BS VI compliant diesel powered Mercedes to go on sale in India. Post this, Mercedes will launch other BS VI complaint vehicles, namely the S 560 & the S 650, which were recently showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.
