Messi’s retirement will not affect deal with Tata Motors
The terms of contract between Tata Motors Limited and Lionel Messi as global brand ambassador for Tata branded passenger vehicles remains unchanged even as the soccer star has announced his retirement from international football.
The immediate decision to retire was taken following him missing a penalty shootout as Argentina lost a fourth major final in 9 years. The 29-year-old footballer failed to help his national team win against Chile at the Copa America.
Last year in November, Tata Motors entered into a contract with Messi as global brand ambassador for their passenger vehicle segment. This is a 2 year contract with can be extended and Messi was signed at INR 60 crores per year, reveals LiveMint.
This is the first time that Messi is endorsing an Indian brand, and the result seems to be impressive. The first car Messi is promoting for Tata, is the new Tiago, which is priced at just INR 3.2 lakh. The situation is such, that people who do not relate with cars, know it as the Messi car. This probably has resulted in unprecedented demand for Tata Tiago.
Ever since Tata Tiago was launched in April 2016, sales have been averaging in excess of 3,000 units per month. Messi as brand ambassador has brought in increased footfalls in company showrooms. He is expected to promote upcoming Tata cars like Kite 5, Hexa and Nexon.
