MG Gloster is a much larger than Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour
MG Motor is getting ready to launch yet another SUV in India. This will be Gloster, a full-sized 4WD SUV. Named after a British jet engine aircraft prototype, the Gloster is loaded with features and technology. It will be the most advanced SUV on offer for its price segment.
It was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year. The model showcased then, was not a production-spec variant. Now, first images of production-spec Gloster have been leaked – thanks to MG Club India.
Gloster is positioned on a ladder on frame chassis. It measures 5005 mm in length, 1932 mm in width and 1875 mm in height while its wheelbase stands at 2950 mm. These dimensions give it a commanding road presence and outstanding interior space making it wider and taller than the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
Its exteriors sport a large front grille, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, pronounced wheel arches and 18 inch wheels. The rear section will sport quad exhaust pipes as against the twin pipe set up seen on the model on display at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The Gloster spied above, is seen with three badges at the rear; with one of them indicating a 4WD system. This is an on demand four wheel drive system, unlike anything that has been offered in this segment till date. In addition to the 4WD system, it will also get ADAS, as suggested on the badge. ADAS stands for Advanced driver-assistance systems.
MG’s biggest SUV for India, is offered in 3 engine options internationally. Engine specs include a 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engine making 161 hp power and 375 Nm torque. The twin turbo version makes 215 hp power and 480 Nm torque while the 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine is capable of 211 hp power and 350 Nm torque. Each of these engine options get mated to a 6 speed manual or an 8 speed automatic.
New MG Gloster is also likely to be offered in both 4×2 and 4×4 options. It is not yet confirmed as to which of these engines will be making its way onto the India-spec MG Gloster SUV.
MG’s flagship SUV in India, Gloster will also be their most feature-rich and technologically advanced car. It will offer far more features as compared to Hector, Hector Plus of the ZS EV. The cabin sees leather upholstery all around, soft touch material and a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will also offer internet connected features. Gloster teasers also hint features such as Collision Avoidance System, Park Help and Emergency Cease Warning along with Lane Departure Alert.
Where competition is concerned, the new MG Gloster will have no direct rivals in the segment. It is expected to be priced in the Rs 40-50 lakhs segment. It might attract buyers of Fortuner and Endeavour. Gloster launch date is set for just ahead of the festive season in India.
